    Registration brochures for the Portland AGM were mailed on Friday June 18 to JASNA members in good standing. The registration forms for the AGM and optional tours are also posted online. You may register using either the online form or the form included in the brochure.

  • Reading about Northanger Abbey
    The theme of JASNA's 2010 AGM is "Jane Austen and The Abbey: Mystery, Mayhem, and Muslin in Portland." JASNA member Janine Barchas's groundbreaking essay is recommended reading in preparation for the AGM: "Mapping Northanger Abbey: or, Why Austen's Bath of 1803 Resembles Joyce's Dublin of 1904.

  • Call for Papers for 2011 Annual General Meeting in Fort Worth
    The Steering Committee for the 2011 Fort Worth AGM invites proposals for breakout sessions related to the Conference theme, "Jane Austen: 200 Years of Sense and Sensibility."

    A special edition of JASNA's journal Persuasions On-Line is published. It features papers from the July 2009 conference "New Directions in Austen Studies," held at Chawton House Library.

    The section of the JASNA website dedicated to maps of the novels has a new entry. JASNA member Jane Axelrod created a map of London that shows locations mentioned in all six of Austen's novels.

  • Joan Ray Leads Online Discussion of Sense and Sensibility
    Masterpiece Classic on PBS will rebroadcast Sense and Sensibility in two parts, on February 1 and 8, 2009. JASNA Past President, will lead an online discussion about the adaptation February 2-13 on the Barnes and Noble Classics Book Club website.

  • Rebroadcast of Masterpiece Sense and Sensibility
    Masterpiece Classic on PBS will rebroadcast Sense and Sensibility (which premiered in 2008) in two parts, on February 1 and 8, 2009. Check the local listings for your PBS station to see the times in your area.

    The novel Twilight, by Stephanie Meyer, follows the Pride and Prejudice plot closely but gives quite a different twist to the romantic tension. It has been made into a film that is now a box-office smash.

  • Winning Cartoon Caption from Chicago AGM Poster Session
    Chicago AGM attendees who visited Gene Gill's poster session were challenged to write a caption for one of Gene's cartoons. Ted Adams from San Francisco came up with the winning entry.

    JASNA is pleased to announce the publication of In Defense of Mrs. Elton, by Diana Birchall with illustrations by Juliet McMaster. This sympathetic look at Mrs. Elton was first published for the 1999 AGM in Colorado Springs.
