I actually liked S&S 1981 better then the 1995 one. The 1981 version has most of the book in it, however I still haven't warmed up to Col. Brandon it it. The 1995 version was all right, but I didn't like that they cut out several characters and made Elinor be too old. I'm looking forward to the 2008 S&S. It looks like it will be good.

As for Emma the 1996/1997 one with Kate Beckinsale has my vote hands down. The Gwyneth one makes me roll my eyes. Emma's future husband is no surprise at all. As soon as one sees him one knows that he is the hero. It's way too obvious.

I can't see that Elinor from 1981 should be younger, I think she looks much older than 18 too. And I can't stand the ridicilous bad acting and cheap costumes and everything.

Elinor was something like Irene Richard, if you have seen pp from 1980 she is playing Charlotte there, and Marianne`s first name was Tracy. I haven`t seen any Emma movies yet. But I don`t have high expectation to the one with Gwyneth Palthrow (sorry for the spelling).

You do know that Irene Richard played Elinor in the 81 S & S?

I enjoyed all 3 S & S's but none were "perfect" for me.

No Margaret in the 81. Elinor was WAY too old in the 95-although I thought Emma Thompson did a great job acting, and that scene of Willougby seducing Eliza Williams sickened me in the 2008 S & S.

I understand BBC also made another S & S back in 71 but they do not have it for sale. The actess who played Mrs. Gardiner in the 95 P & P played Elinor in that one. BTW, she and the actress who played Georgiana in the 95 P & P are mother and daughter.

I absolutely loved the '95 version of Sense and Sensibility. I've seen another one, not sure what year, but it was done by BBC. Actually, I have the BBC versions for all the books, but I still have yet to watch them all.

But the '95 version was very good. My sister and I love that movie, and my sister isn't a huge reader, but she ended up reading the book after seeing the movie, and she loved it too.

I just enjoyed everything about it, the characters, the dresses, the scenery, it just went so well. It was a fantastic movie.
