Being relatively new to Jane Austen (I read P&P in high school and then last week!) I am just now beginning to read S&S.

I would like to know who everyone's favorite character is, and why.

I will tell you why I ask this. Where I am in the book right now (Colonel Brandon has just left the country for mysterious reasons that Mrs. Jennings supposes have to do with his natural daughter) I want to slap most of the women, either for being so silly, or for not having enough personality (not both, like sense and sensibility, these things appear to be mutually exclusive), and the men for the same reason.

I am hoping that other people's view on why they love certain characters will usher me into a greater understanding of them, beyond what I have now.

Of course if they are soon to improve (clearly there are several large revelations coming soon) feel free to tell me that I am crazy!!

I like both Elinor and Marianne. I liked Elinor best when I read the book. Kate Winslet did such a good Marianne that I started love her too

Marianne is by far my favorite
