Mr. Bingley 2008/01/29 02:49
Have there been any sequels to Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Bingley's point of view or even Jane's point of view?

I realize that the novel is centered primarily around Elizabeth and Darcy and I've always seen Jane and Bingley as background to Elizabeth and Jane. However, I just finished Mr. Darcy's Diary and thought it would be...neat(couldn't think of a better word) to perhaps expand on Bingley's character and build on Jane's character.

hi i'm kinda' new to Jane Austen and i'm 12 so i don't know if i can help you but i thought of sharing my knowledge with you. no, i don't think there are any sequels for Mr. Bingley and the reason behind that is (warning what you are about to read is just my opinion it's not a fact) because the Bingley-Jane relation-ship is predictable from the first time they are viewed to the reader of Pride and Prejudice but the Darcy-Elizabeth relation-ship is more of an unpredictable one and also because this something that is unique about Mr. Darcy and Lizzy is more capturing to the reader's heart which makes them (refered to the reader(s) feel that this is an easier character to write about because many readers fall in love with a main character so imagine if there is a sequel for Mr. Bingly or (previously) Miss.Bennet, besides you, who on earth would buy this rather than buying a Mr.Darcy or a Lizzy sequel.
no offense for Mr.Bingley or his lovely wife Mrs. Bingley and they both are from my favorite characters too but Bingley is more of a flat character you know and Jane too is a more of a flat character people would like to read about Dynamic characters as well as flat characters but not as main characters, if you still don't understand what i was babbling about i come here alot.
P.S. sorry if you can't understand my weird way of explaining anything (if this is called explaining) but it's my way i can't make it short nor simple so sorry

Well, that's my point. They're flat characters but yet, I'd like to see them further developed. For some odd reason.

I did see something alled the Pemberely Chronicles, I do not remeber the author-but it is 4 sequels to P & P. One is titled "Netherfield Park"

Now I would guess that would be about Jane and Bingley, but maybe not, maybe new inhabitnats, since at the end of P & P JA tells us that after a year of mariage Bingley buys an estate in a neighboring county to Pemberley.

I forget how JA put it- (I need to get out the novel I guess!) but something about their feeling the need to get away from Mrs. Bennett and Meryton! LOL! I beleive I would want to get away from Mrs. Bennett also!

So I was going to wait until Sourcebooks posted it here, but as that hasn't happened yet, I'll go ahead and say Sourcebooks is publishing my novel, which DOES focus on Bingley and his friendship with Darcy. It's called "The Darcys and the Bingleys" and you can find it on the main Sourcebooks site or Amazon. My real name is Marsha Altman.

That's awesome that you're getting a book published. How did that come about? Have you written anything else?

It comes out in September. You can find it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.com in pre-order. I've written a bunch of sequels to it, so let's hope it does well enough that the sequels get bought!

I should be up on this site as an author in August sometime, I'm told. Whenever the books come in from the printer.
