I am a Jane Austen Purist ... 2008/04/21 18:30
Is anyone here a true purist at heart? I am. I did not realize how much until I started reading some sequels. I totally loved and appreciated Mr. Darcy's Diary and Mr. Knightley's Diary. The last book I tried was Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife and was completely disturbed but what the author did with the characters and the plot. The language itself lacked creativity. There was no logical development to Austen's characters nor the story, just her own imaginations. Some like that but I do not. I love all the characters just the way the are and don't want to ever change them. This is my opinion, how about you???

I did not like all the sexual content of Mr. Darcy takes a wife. I felt as though I was a peeping Tom in two of my favorite character's bedroom. It was almost felt like spying on friends. I felt repulsed.

Yes, I do believe that Lizzy and Darcy would have had a healthy sex life. I just do not want to know blow by blow details.

Three things I disliked about this novel- which showed me that Ms Burdell had not read Pride and Prejudice thoruoughly herself. Elizabeth was spelled" Elisabeth", so not ture to Jane Auten's spelling.

Mr. william Collins was given some ridiculous first name instead of william that Jane Austen had given him.

Georgiana was supposably named for the Duchess of Devonshire whom Linda Burdell tells us her father was supposed to have had an affair.

Most true Janeites realize Georgiana was given a combination of her parent's names. We know that because George wickham's godfather was Mr. Darcy and Anne du Bourgh's godmother was Mrs. Darcy. Jane Austen tell us that.
