Version and Diversion is an excellent rendition of Mansfield Park belowstairs. Jane, gamekeeper's daughter from Sotherton Court, comes to Mansfield Park as maid to second daughter Julia. Dismissed because she attracts the man both Julia and her sister are pursuing, Jane journeys to London with a politically active scene painter formerly employed at Mansfield Park. He eventually helps launch her in a promising acting career, but not before she has paid dearly for this connection. Terry adds the picaresque flavor and broad scope of Defoe and Fielding to faithfully captured characters and scenes from Austen. Highly recommended.
